The VA Does Not Provide Funeral Coverage!

While you can access a National Cemetery for your burial plot, headstone, opening and closing, and grave liner at no cost, the expenses for body preparation, transportation, and the casket/urn will still fall on your family. Instead of leaving your loved ones with these expenses, consider leaving them with financial support. Obtain a Personalized Quote.

How Veterans Burial Benefits Work

Learn how to obtain Veterans Burial Allowances (commonly known as "Veterans death benefits") to assist with expenses related to burial, funeral, and transportation.

Check

Eligibility

You could qualify if you are covering funeral expenses without reimbursement from any other source. Also, you must not have been dishonorably discharged.

Identify

Entitlements

Upon establishing eligibility, you may be entitled to a VA burial allowance for burial and funeral expenses, a VA plot allowance for grave site costs (if not utilizing a national cemetery), or compensation for transportation.

Gather

Documents

Make sure your family has all required documents ready for application. This includes a copy of your DD214, the death certificate, any receipts or documents related to funeral expenses, and an account statement from the funeral director or cemetery owner.

Submit a

Claim

Your family should submit a claim for a non-service connected burial allowance within two years of your death. For a service-connected burial allowance, there is no deadline for filing a claim.

Await

Reimbursement

Reimbursement will be issued to your surviving family members based on the current claim processing times. It's important to note that there's no assurance of immediate fund disbursement, so it's crucial for your family to be financially prepared.

How Veterans Affairs Life Insurance (VALife) Works

Veterans Affairs Life Insurance (VALife) is an insurance option accessible to veterans with service-connected disabilities.

Verify

Eligibility

Guaranteed Acceptance applies if you are aged 80 or younger and have a VA service-connected disability rating ranging from 0 to 100%, or if you are 81 or older and received your disability rating within the past two years.

Waiting

Assessment

VALife coverage includes a mandatory 2-year waiting period, regardless of your health condition. This choice is only suitable if you've determined that you are unable to qualify for coverage without this waiting period.

Coverage

Selection

If VALife is the most suitable option for you, you can select a benefit amount ranging from $10,000 to $40,000 in increments of $10,000. Your premium will remain fixed for the duration of your life

Apply for

Coverage

You can submit your application directly through the VA website. Ensure that you have an Id.me, Login.gov, or DS Logon account to verify your Veteran Status. If you encounter any difficulties, you can also apply directly at your VA Clinic

Review the

Policy

After you apply, the policy will be sent to you for your review. It is important to comprehend how the 2-year waiting period functions, and be sure to keep the policy in a secure location.

How soon do I get my benefits?

Your complete life insurance coverage becomes effective two years after your application is submitted. Premiums must be paid during this two-year waiting period.

In the event of your passing during the initial 2-year waiting period, your beneficiaries will receive the total amount of premiums you paid, plus an additional 10% interest. If your passing occurs anytime after this 2-year waiting period, your beneficiaries will be entitled to the full coverage amount as specified in your policy.

Do You Have S-DVI or VGLI?

If you possess Service-Disabled Veterans Life Insurance (S-DVI), you have two choices. You can either apply for VALife now or retain your S-DVI coverage. If you opt to apply immediately, your S-DVI coverage will remain in force during the 2-year waiting period. Your S-DVI coverage, including policies with premium waivers, will cease once the 2-year waiting period for VALife is completed. Premiums must be paid for both policies during this waiting period. It's essential to note that VALife does not provide premium waivers. If you currently benefit from a premium waiver, it may be advisable to explore other options.

In the case of Veterans Group Life Insurance (VGLI), you can also secure a VALife policy in addition to or as a replacement. VGLI offers increasing term coverage, with premiums increasing every 5 years (up to age 80, at which point premiums remain fixed for life). Carefully assess the potential price increase to determine whether continuing your VGLI coverage is the most suitable choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't you simply provide me with a number?

This is the most frequent question we encounter daily. To put it simply, a quote is of little value if we do not have information on your eligibility. Every individual's circumstances are unique, and what you qualify for determines your "quote." Once we have assessed your eligibility, we can furnish you with MULTIPLE quotes.

What should I anticipate during my free consultation?

During your free consultation, you can expect undivided attention from our trusted advisor. They will carefully listen to your situation to gain a complete understanding of your insurance needs. Afterward, they will present ALL available options to ensure you are well-informed about your choices. It will then be your decision whether it makes sense to proceed with applying for coverage.

How much does insurance cost?

The cost varies depending on your eligibility. For instance, a 65-year-old male could pay as little as $20 per month or as much as over $400 per month for a $40,000 policy. Providing a standard cost for insurance is impossible without knowledge of your eligibility.

Does my coverage expire at age 80?

Whether your coverage expires at age 80 depends on the type of coverage you have. For all our clients, we ensure that the policies we arrange for them will NEVER expire, and the premiums will NEVER increase at any age. It's crucial for every Veteran we assist to comprehend the insurance coverage they have in place.
